Mediation is the process
by which parties in dispute come together and resolve their differences
through the help of a trained and neutral intermediary.
Mediation can be used by:
If you are divorcing or separating, in dispute with a business,
employer, or coworker, or in conflict with a neighbor or neighborhood
association, and have a desire to resolve the issue, no matter
how difficult the issue seems, mediation can work. Mediation does
not have to be a long, drawn-out process. Simple matters can be
resolved in one or two sessions. More complex issues require more
mediation. However, mediation is a faster, less expensive process
than litigation.
The goal of mediation is to reach a mutually equitable agreement
outside of the court room. The cost of mediation is about the same
as the cost of one attorney. Fees are determined by the amount
of time spent in actual mediation, drafting of agreements and telephone
calls. Disputing parties generally split the cost of mediation
equally.
